We are thrilled to announce a unique award opportunity to help reduce financial barriers for those attending Level 1 Avalanche courses. The Alaska Avalanche Information Center has received funding to pass through to course participants in the form of reimbursement scholarships for course attendance, and availability of the essential safety equipment required for individuals attending formalized Level 1 training through the Alaska Avalanche School. Our goal is to ensure that those recreating in avalanche terrain have the knowledge and tools to best support their own safety and well-being in the mountains.
Scholarships to reimburse course registration fees are available to those demonstrating need. In addition, limited avalanche safety equipment is available as well and could include beacon, shovel, and probe. Scholarships and equipment are limited and will be awarded based on the demonstrated need of each applicant. If you wish to be considered, please submit a letter (pdf or word format), explaining your individual need and detailing what your specific ask is through this scholarship program.
Letters should be emailed to info@alaskasnow.org, along with confirmation of your registration in a Level 1 course. Requests will be reviewed and considered as they are received and recipients will be notified of the award decision. Please note, if you are awarded any safety equipment you will receive it when you arrive for your course. Awardees will be asked to provide a testimonial and follow up after your course to help us share the impact of this award program.
Alaska Avalanche School Level 1 registration will open September 8, 2025.
