Join us for an intensive one-day clinic designed to expose participants to essential skills and knowledge for glacier travel and crevasse rescue. This 8-hour indoor training session is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking to enhance their safety and rescue capabilities with an introduction to glacier travel and rescue principals. Glacier travel is a high risk and multidisciplinary craft learned best in the field with guides or mentors. This course is a great first step.

Course Objectives:

Participants will learn fundamental terminology and concepts related to crevasse rescue, as well as practical skills that can be applied in real-life scenarios. The curriculum includes:

  • Terminology: Gain an understanding of critical terms and concepts involved in glacier travel and crevasse rescue, enabling clear communication and effective planning.
  • Route Planning and Avoidance: Learn tools and principles used to assess routes on glaciers and make informed decisions to avoid crevasse falls, we will discuss the evaluation of terrain and snow conditions.
  • Basic Knot and Rope Craft: Learn essential knots and techniques essential for climbing and rescue, including tying, securing, and managing ropes.
  • Equipment Use: Familiarize yourself with the gear and equipment used in crevasse rescue, including harnesses, ropes, pulleys, prussicks and other rescue tools.
  • Self and Group Rescue Techniques: Introduction to self-rescue and group rescue scenarios, including haul systems and emergency response protocols.

Who Should Attend:

This clinic is suitable for all levels and backgrounds who wish to further develop their confidence and capability in the mountains. Whether you are a beginner looking to expand your skills or an experienced climber wanting to refresh your knowledge, this course offers valuable insights and hands-on practice.

*This course is open to students 16 years of age or older.

What to Bring:

Participants are encouraged to bring personal climbing gear (harness, helmet, sturdy shoes, etc.) and any additional equipment they may want to practice with. All other materials and equipment will be provided.
