Location: Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska
Port of Departure & Return: Seward, Alaska
Duration: 6 days / 5 nights aboard the MV Aleutia and MV Milo
Experience a Rec Level 2 course unlike any other. The Alaska Avalanche School has partnered with the Alaska Surf Guides/MV Aleutia and the MV Milo for six unforgettable days, exploring the rugged coastline and remote terrain of Kenai Fjords National Park.
Start your mornings with coffee and classroom sessions while anchored in world-class bays, then step ashore for full days of hands-on learning surrounded by glaciers and the expansive Alaskan wilderness.
Summer brings thousands of visitors to these waters, but spring offers a different experience where you will most likely be sharing the fjords with little more than harbor seals and the sounds of nature.
Throughout the course, students and instructors will cover A3-certified curriculum, while also addressing topics that include:
Expedition planning and logistics
Travel in remote and unforecasted avalanche terrain
Advanced decision-making and terrain assessment
Practical application of avalanche education in a complex backcountry environment
For the duration of the course, students and staff will live aboard either the MV Aleutia or MV Milo, creating a truly immersive experience. This all-inclusive expedition includes lodging aboard the vessel, all meals, and transportation to and from the field, allowing you to focus on learning, skiing, and exploring.
This is a rigorous course designed for experienced skiers and splitboarders who have completed an Avalanche Level 1 course.
Day 1 will begin with a review of avalanche rescue skills and scenario-based training, establishing a strong foundation before progressing into more complex terrain and decision-making exercises throughout the course.
Admission is pending until we receive proof of your Level 1 certification. Your certification must have been completed at least one year prior to the course start date.
Please email a copy of your Level 1 certificate to info@alaskaavalanche.org.
*Students must be 18 years of age or older.*
Due to the advanced logistics of this course, please note the cancellation policy is different from our typical Level 2. Tuition is non-refundable after January 15, 2027. Cancellations made before January 15th will receive a refund of 50% of tuition paid.
