Jake Kayes

Originally from Minnesota, Jake spent much of his childhood trying to ski, and play outside as much as possible. He is a persistent, hard worker and is a full-time outdoor industry professional. When he’s not working for the Alaska Avalanche School, Jake works as a mountaineering ranger in Denali National Park. Jake has worked as a guide for the Alaska Mountaineering School and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and as an avalanche forecaster with Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center. Jake’s love for avalanche education has allowed him to teach all over Alaska, from Ketchikan to Nome. He is an AMGA Assistant Ski guide and has taken courses in the Rock and Alpine disciplines. Jake received the National Park Services' Mislow-Swanson Denali Pro award for performing a high altitude rescue on Denali in 2017. He holds a BA in Outdoor Studies from Alaska Pacific University and lives and recreates year-round in Palmer, Alaska. If he isn’t in the mountains you can find him running, fly fishing and looking for the perfect cappuccino.
