Sarah, originally born in Fairbanks, was raised between Montana and Idaho where she developed her deep love for the high desert landscapes of the West. Raised by two Alaska smokejumpers, Sarah grew up on wild stories of the Alaskan backcountry and summers under the midnight sun. Her whole life she dreamed of returning to where she was born, so in 2018 she made the move to McCarthy and never looked back! There she spent multiple seasons guiding ice climbing, rafting, backpacking and generally basking in the magic of the Wrangells. Since then, Sarah has lived between Girdwood and Palmer working for the National Outdoor Leadership School as a mountaineering and backpacking instructor. Sarah continues to be passionate about the art of suffering gracefully in the mountains whether it be on skis, crampons or with her trusty cow dog companion, Rita, by her side.
