Location: Kenai Fjords, AK
In tandem with our Level 2+ course, Alaska Avalanche School is partnering with Alaska Surf Guides to offer a 6-day Level 1+ course. This boat based adventure will travel from Seward into Resurrection Bay to Aialik Bay, NW Lagoon and possibly Montague Island in Prince William Sound. All students and instructors will live aboard one of two ships on this all-inclusive trip where all meals and field transportation is included. You and your instructors will cover an A3 certified Level 1 curriculum and introduce topics such as expedition planning and traveling in unforecasted avalanche terrain. Each evening students will work with your instructors and boat captains on the next day’s trip planning and mapping skills.
Operating under a special use permit with the Chugach National Forest and a Commercial Use Authorization with Kenai Fjords National Park.

This rigorous course is designed for experienced skiers and splitboarders. While no prerequisite certification is required to enter this Level 1 course, previous backcountry travel experience is strongly recommended. Field portions of the course will involve bushwhacking and other backcountry hazards–if you are just getting into this sport, we encourage you to enroll in one of our less remote offerings.
*Students must be 21 or older.
*Travel insurance is recommended.
Field days would be held either in Seward Area, Moose Pass, Manitoba Area, Summit Area.
