Due to the pandemic, most of our typical chances to get together as a ski community have been put on hold this year. That doesn’t mean we have to stay inside. Safe and conservative recreation, good backcountry decision making, and avalanche education continue! The Alaska Avalanche School wants to showcase positivity, safety, snow, and stoke in the backcountry community this year with our first ever backcountry photo contest!
All proceeds support the school and you could win a pair of skis or a bunch of other rad prizes!
How it works:
This is a fundraiser! $15 donation per entry. You can submit as many entries as you want.
Pictures have to be from Alaska and taken this past year.
-Best Skin Track (Gotta get up that hill in style)
-Best Snow Science Picture (pit, test, obs, etc…science it up!)
-Best Dressed (if you’re not looking good, why do it, right?)
-Best Ski Turn (show us them edges)
-Best Sled Turn (braap brap!)
Grand Prize include skis, packs, probes, and a whole bundle of sweet gear!
Contest opens: March 1st
Submissions due: March 24th
Winners Announced: March 31st
Photos will be judged by a panel of three local skis and photographer.
Fine print: We will be posting photos to social media and using some submissions for school material – now we told you so. Also, participants with multiple entries will be limited to one win.
Classroom sessions will be held at the Alaska Avalanche School office (1025 Orca St #1n, Anchorage, AK 99501).
