Recreational / Level 1 Refresher / Anchorage / Dec 17-18, 2021

3 hr evening lecture / 1 full (8 hour) field day / $195

This workshop reviews the Rec Level 1 curriculum and is meant for backcountry users who have received some avalanche safety training but are not interested in repeating the full Level 1 course. The Online classroom session precedes a full day in the field (specific locations are chosen based on conditions at the time of the course). Participants can expect a review of the following skills:

  • Rescue techniques and new technology
  • Transceiver use and practice
  • Terrain analysis
  • Snow stability evaluation
  • Decision-making
  • Route selection and travel procedures

Prerequisites: Participants must have already completed a Level 1 class.

Prior to the start of the course, we strongly suggest students to re-read Avalanche Essentials and/or Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, track Turnagain Pass/Hatcher Pass area weather, and come to the workshop prepared with specific questions and areas of focus.
